Job description
About us: We are the independent expert in assurance and risk management. Driven by our purpose, to safeguard life, property, and the environment, we empower our customers and their stakeholders with facts and reliable insights so that critical decisions can be made with confidence.
As a trusted voice for many of the world's most successful organizations, we use our knowledge to advance safety and performance, set industry benchmarks, and inspire and invent solutions to tackle global transformations.
About Energy Systems
We help customers navigate the complex transition to a decarbonized and more sustainable energy future. We do this by assuring that energy systems work safely and effectively, using solutions that are increasingly digital. We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.
About the role
: Do you want to be part of the Energy Transition? – Could you contribute to a range of diverse projects that are transforming the future of global energy? Do you want to make a real difference? - Do you aspire to tackle real-world challenges and create innovative solutions alongside industry-leading experts?
Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it's helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonized and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of. You'll be part of our highly respected Performance Forecasting team who undertake Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) studies, to forecast the performance of our customers' energy and process facilities.
Our Performance Forecasting services provide expert guidance and strategic solutions that enable businesses to predict the future performance of their assets and make informed decisions about commercial agreements, design, operations, and maintenance. These services are provided to our customers right across the energy and process sectors - from traditional industries such as Oil & Gas and Petrochemical, to more sustainable systems, in support of the Energy Transition, such as Wind, Solar, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage, Ammonia, Waste-to-Energy.
Our Opportunity
: As a highly analytical student, studying towards a degree in subjects such as Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, our summer placement provides a fantastic opportunity to gain practical work experience to complement your university studies.
Based from either our Loughborough or central London offices, you'll utilize your analytical and problem-solving skills to help our customers across the Energy industry, identify, and implement innovative solutions to impact the transition to a more decarbonized and sustainable future. Our summer placement is usually 10-12 weeks in duration, commencing from June onwards.
During your placement you'll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive, develop and embrace new challenges. And if you enjoy your time with us, you could be offered the opportunity to join our Graduate Programme at the end of your studies or to return the following year for another placement.
As an Energy Systems RAM Consultant with DNV, you will be given opportunity to:
- Help Gather and Organise Data: Collect information about equipment failures, repairs, and operating hours. Clean up spreadsheets, check for missing data, and prepare it for analysis. Calculate basic reliability metrics like average time between failures.
- Use Industry Leading DNV Software Tools and Methods: Get training in RAM software used by the team. Learn how engineers think about reliability, risk, and maintenance. Build confidence working with real engineering data.
- Build Reliability Models: Assist consultants in creating simple reliability block diagrams or system models. Use modeling software under supervision (you won't be thrown in alone). Run simulations and record the results. Test models with "what-if?" scenarios (e.g., "What if this equipment is spared?")
- Create Charts, Summaries & Visuals: Turn your model results into clear graphs and tables. Draft short summaries for customer reports. Help prepare slides for client presentations.
- Collaborate with our Expert Consultants: Join client meetings where your results will be presented. Observe how consultants explain technical findings in simple terms. Learn how RAM analysis influences real engineering decisions.
What we offer
: We value all our people and the contributions they make to our business, so it's important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That's why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package, allowing you to choose the things that matter most to you, including:
- Starting Salary £25,000 (Pro-Rated) based on 37.5 hours per week.
- Exceptional development and support, with the potential to join our Graduate Development Programme, following completion of your degree.
