Background
Josephine's star is a small, quickly growing charity, set up to support children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives.
The coordinator role will be central to the successful running of the charity, managing the communication between the charity and the parent and carers seeking support from it.
The coordinator will act as the link with the charity's trustees and volunteers.The person who takes on this role will need to understand the sensitive and potentially challenging nature of some of the conversations they will have with those affected by bereavement and be prepared to undergo appropriate training to full fill the role.
The role is
Home Based with some travel in
Somerset and occasional meetings face to face in
Somerset or
Devon.
The post holder is responsible for;
- Contact all new referrals
- Arrange and carry out home visits where appropriate
- Keep records of initial meetings.
- Establish what Support is needed, level of need and urgency.
- Signpost & refer families to outside agencies as required to ensure that our support remains solely bereavement.
- Allocate children/young people to volunteers.
- Manage caseload of volunteers and providing dynamic supervision.
- Review session feedback & liaise with volunteers
- IF Designated Safeguarding officer follow procedure and write up safeguarding form completing all necessary communications/actions.
- Deliver refresher safeguarding training annually (IF DSO) If Not Level 3 Safeguarding trained, be prepared to undertake this training
- Support with recruitment of volunteers
- Updating website with resources and tools beneficial to volunteers.
- Share examples of best practice/good examples from volunteers with volunteers.
- Review policies/protocols as required.
- Support the facilitation of training new volunteers

Referrals
- Carry out detailed contact with families / agencies
- Liaise with agencies, families and individuals who contact Josephine's Star making requests for support for children and young people.
- Assess and assign each child to a volunteer on a case bu case basis.
- Actively support volunteers and review their session invofmation.
General support of the Trustees
- Attend and support the work of the charity as required
- Ensure that all relevant information is recorded onto volunteer database.
- Provide a monthly update to trustees.
- Attend trustee meetings as and when required
- Any other duties deemed appropriate by the CEO and trustees
Person Specification
- Have an understanding of bereavement and the issues that effect children and young people following the death of someone significant. (though training will be given)
- Experience of working in a child centred role
- Good telephone and written skills
- Good understanding of timely management of a waiting list
- Be IT literate in order to manage and keep uptodate the database that is central to the role.
- Comfortable feeding back and working with a trustee board
- Be prepared to undergo and enhance DBS check

Full Driving licence and access to a vehicle
