The University of Reading is recruiting for a full-time, permanent Senior Library Assistant to join our Collections Services Team within the University Library and Collections Service (ULCS).

The role will primarily be based at our beautiful Whiteknights campus which is set within 134 hectares and includes a lake, woodlands and the popular Harris Garden.

We were awarded the silver Investors in People accreditation.


This role would suit a highly motivated and organized individual with previous experience in acquisitions, ideally in an academic Library setting, who is looking to further develop their skills in this area.


The role involves:

  • Supervising and coordinating the day to day work of the Acquisitions Team Library Assistants
  • Assisting the Resources Supervisor in monitoring resource purchasing processes
  • Coordinating and responding to enquiries from Academic Liaison Librarians and external suppliers
  • Assisting the Resources Supervisor in monitoring the online reading list review process by relevant Library staff
  • Supporting the Resources Supervisor in training Library staff in resource purchasing routines

You will have:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • A good general education to GCSE standard or equivalent, including English and Maths
  • Experience of an automated acquisitions supply system
