GMP Professional Standards Branch (PSB) is committed to promoting the need for integrity and professionalism force wide.

The Force Vetting Unit (FVU) forms part of the PSB and is an integral part of ensuring that that the force only recruits those with proven honesty and integrity into GMP, safeguarding the reputation of the force, protecting our assets and securing public confidence.


You will be joining our team of Vetting Researchers conducting force vetting in accordance with the Vetting Code of Practice and the College of Policing Vetting Authorised Professional Practice, for every person who has access to police premises, information and systems.


As a Vetting Researcher you will interrogate a variety of databases and documents in order to conduct research into applicants and their family members /associates, formulate accurate file summaries based on the relevance of the findings and assist, as required, with vetting interviews and low risk decision making.

You will also provide advice and guidance, internally and externally, to managers and applicants on all vetting issues.

You will ensure the prompt dispatch of electronic vetting forms and be responsible for checking that incoming forms are complete and ready for processing, paying particular attention to detail and accuracy.

Further contact may be required with the applicant either by phone and/or in writing to clarify vetting submissions.


Experience in all aspects of inputting, updating, sorting and reporting using Microsoft systems and databases are essential, producing written documents to the required standards in grammar, punctuation and presentation working quickly and accurately, other general clerical duties as required, such as photocopying, scanning and the processing of correspondence and maintaining accurate records.
