The Role


Are you looking for a career in administration? Newcastle University has a wide range of roles that play a key part in supporting the progress of our undergraduate and postgraduate students and the School of Arts & Cultures has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our degree programme administration team.

You will provide comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth and effective running of a cluster of the school's degree programmes, updating documentation and IT systems and responding to queries from our students.


Whilst full training will be provided on our procedures and supporting systems, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to follow processes and guidance and use your initiative and judgement to prioritise your own workload and resolve problems independently.

IT skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Key Accountabilities Working under the oversight of a Learning & Teaching Administrator, complete activities as part of the annual degree programme lifecycle, including: inputting amendments to annual documentation such as modules and regulations, supporting student registration, induction and personal tutor allocation, uploading information to University systems, checking and updating student data using University systems, receiving and checking coursework including follow up for non or late submissions, supporting the Learning & Teaching Administrator with the administration of relevant meeting and the collation of timetable requirements Support student placements where required, including coordinating a range of documentation (CVs, risk assessments, research proposals, surveys) and liaising with students as required Process absence and personal circumstance requests and support the attendance monitoring process Provide students with a consistent level of service and ensure they are effectively supported throughout their programme lifecycle, including whilst taking part in activities such as placements and mobility opportunities To act as front-line support for student queries in various locations associated with the School on a rota basis and will be expected to take on a generic health and safety role within the School To carry out other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of the school's vision and strategy

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Ability to follow processes and guidance provided at local and institutional level Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently Excellent IT skills, i.e.

, good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages Good written and oral communication skills along with good numeracy skills Familiarity with prioritising your own workload Willingness and availability to work flexibly when required and agreed with line manager

Qualifications (Essential) An excellent level of numeracy and literacy demonstrated through qualifications and/or relevant experience
