Description

Responsible for the financial aspects of major strategic projects, encompassing strategic partnership working with other NHS organisations in Greater Manchester and beyond.

Responsible for the development and strategy of patient level costing (PLICS)

Programme lead for the strategic capital, working closely with stakeholders across the Trust

Programme lead for the development of a finance education programme

Responsibility for the management of the systems team, and oversight over strategic systems developments.

Programme lead for the trust efficiency programme, working closely with colleagues across finance and the wider organisation to set efficiency targets


Programme lead for the use of benchmarking data within the trust, working closely with the Directors of Operations, to ensure there is good understanding and best usage of the information improving best use of resources.

To succeed, you'll be a qualified accountant with significant senior post qualification experience gained within an NHS environment.

With strong financial management experience; you'll have excellent leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including clinicians, Board members and regulators.

You'll be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering continuous improvement and the drive to deliver change improving patient services and experience.

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.

We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year.

Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsible for the overall management and performance of trust costing regimes, ensuring the development and understanding of income and pricing policies.


Ensuring that the trusts financial returns and reference costs are prepared in line with NHS guidance and in accordance with specified submission timetables.


Work closely with service managers on major strategic trust projects to ensure these fit with the trust strategic direction and are delivered in a timely manner.

Provide guidance and challenge to ensure that governance requirements are met and the projects comply with business requirements. Ensure the divisional financial managers are engaged in the projects and provide robust financial information.


Lead the on the financial aspects of service redesign and cost improvement schemes, including quality improvements initiatives, benchmarking and productivity indicators.

Responsible for successful delivery of the Towards Excellence reaccreditation process through the Future Focussed Finance Framework and the Continuous Professional Development registration with professional accountancy bodies


Deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance and take a strong lead in supporting and managing the development of staff ensuring quality of service provision within the finance department.

Act as nominated deputy for the Deputy Director of Finance in their absence, attending and chairing meetings where appropriate.

Develop relationships with providers by fostering partnerships based on mutual trust and performance.


Represent the trust on collaborative partnership groups delivering large scale strategic projects and ensure the trust interests are representing mitigating and escalating any material risks and issues.

Oversee the development and continuing improvement of patient level costing throughout the Trust. This will involve formulating long term strategic plans to ensure that it is successfully implemented across the whole organisation.

In conjunction with the Head of Costing and the Divisions develop and maintain procedures for the recording and analysis of information relating to the allocation and apportionment of both income and costs, thereby enabling contribution to be measured at a specialty/departmental and patient level


Ensure that the trusts National Cost Collection return is prepared in line with NHS guidance and in accordance with specified submission timetables.

Benchmarking with other cancer centres to ensure consistency of both costing and activity currency at national level.

Provide financial expertise to Executive Directors, General Managers and Clinical Leaders recommending action to be taken
