Description
We are looking for an assistant technical officer (ATO) who will work closely with the doctors and physiologists in our department to assist them during clinics held in the Neurophysiology department.
You will help provide comfort and support to the patients and their relatives, ensure infection prevention steps are completed, support the team with managing stock levels and help out where needed.
The Neurophysiology is a small friendly department based at Northampton General Hospital, we perform a range of diagnostic tests to help understand brain nerve and muscle diseases.
We see patients in clinics held on Mondays to Fridays and sometimes during these days we attend to a patient on the ward if they can not travel to us.
We are looking for a friendly assistant who loves working with people with empathy and compassion. Assist the medical and clinical staff in the provision of the neurophysiology service.- Support patients and relatives during their attendance in the department.
- Undertake regular infection control measures of clinic rooms and equipment.
- Ensure adequate supply of consumables to maintain efficient and effective service delivery

Assist the medical and clinical staff during clinics held in the department and occasionally on wards including ITU.
Prepare clinic rooms.
Record patient data as directed by medical staff.
Transport portable equipment as required to wards.
Assist patients to undress and act as chaperone during examinations.
Assist patients with limited mobility using correct procedures/ techniques and equipment as required.
Recognise safest means to assist patient mobility.
Support patients in basic hygiene needs.
Organise and maintain consumable stock levels.
Assist department manager in procurement of consumables using NHS supply chain and E-proc computer based systems.
Investigate alternative supplies as required.
Maintain levels of laundry and pharmacy items and liaise with these departments to ensure consistent supplies.
Carry out infection control procedures on clinic rooms and equipment on a regular basis.
Maintain the waiting room facilities and ensure it is clean and safe for all users.
Participate in departmental audits.
