The brief
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Debt Recovery Officer within West Northants Council.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and aspirational person with drive and determination to join our debt collection team based at Northampton.


The role


Reporting to the Debt Recovery Team Manager, you will be customer focused and have the ability to achieve challenging targets and help to make process improvements.

Your main priority will be to reduce aged debt and collect income from new invoices in a timely and effective manner.


Your IT skills will enable you to maximise use of our new ERP system, write individual customer letters and prepare customer statements.

  • The rate is £16.90 per hour Umbrella

Knowledge:


  • Knowledge and experience of finance operational processes and understanding of debt recovery processes (Essential)
  • Knowledge of ERP Systems, e.g. Oracle and/or Agresso (Desirable)
  • Awareness of Social Care charging and financial assessment processes (Desirable)
  • Broad knowledge of relevant Legislation, Data Protection, Customer Care Guidance, and Good Practice relating to debt recovery (Desirable)

Skills:


  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of Debt Recovery service in line with the annual service plan (Essential)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to achieve desired outcomes, influence, and negotiate when advising and supporting customers/users (Essential)
  • Ability to manage own personal workload and prioritize tasks (Essential)
  • Ability to understand and interpret national legislation and guidance and adhere to local policies and procedures (Essential)
  • Show empathy, be calm, and able to deal with conflict management, influence behavior and negotiate winwin solutions for the recovery of debt (Essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating understanding and ability to deal with vulnerable customers and service groups (Essential)
  • Ability to process data and financial information related to the Debt Recovery service, supporting the production of management reports and information on service performance (Essential)
  • Ability to motivate and mentor Apprentices for staff development (Essential)
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people's behavior, physical, social, and welfare needs (Essential)

Experience:


  • Experience of working independently, scheduling and prioritizing own work to meet service requirements (Essential)
  • Proven customer service background with experience in conflict resolution, negotiation, and diplomacy skills (Essential)
  • Experience of working in a customerfocused role in a fastpaced environment (Essential)
