Applicants are invited to the post of Foundation Year 1 in General and Colorectal Surgery.

The successful applicant will become part of a team of 9 registrars, 5 FY1 doctors, 3 Junior Clinical Fellows and 1 CT doctor.

The team is led by 12 consultant surgeons.


Duties include:
on-call care of surgical patients and daily ward care of elective and emergency in patients.

The Hospital is a University Teaching Hospital with attached Medical School and Academic department. The appointed doctors are expected to take part in undergraduate education and contribute to research projects.

We are an international centre for surgery on neuroendocrine tumours and a national centre for complex endometriosis, plastic surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.


The appointed doctor will participate in the general surgery on-call rota, comprised of 5 Foundation Year 1 doctors, providing daytime out of hours cover during the week as well as working 3:10 weekends and 1:17.5 nights.

Study leave allowance will be confirmed by the Medical Education department.
Main duties and responsibilities of the post

The main duties and responsibilities of the post include (but are not limited to) the following: managing ward rounds and unwell in patients.

There is an on-call commitment.

During the week, this will include exposure to giving appropriate assistance in the ED Department, depending on the level of referrals/activity and CEPOD theatres.

Overnight, this includes providing cover for general surgery, vascular surgery, urology and trauma & orthopaedics.
