RPS is looking for looking for an Agricultural Land Classification (ALC), soils and land use specialist. We're RPS and our people are our success. We need people who share our passion on solving the problems that matter.

What you'll be doing


You'll be working with the wider EIA and Sustainability team based at Abingdon and will be responsible for carrying out and managing the ALC, soil and agricultural land use appraisal work within the company for a variety of projects including for onshore cable routes, solar farm appraisals, onshore windfarms, roads and airports work together with residential and other development proposals.


The role would involve:


  • ALC and soil resource appraisal work including numerous surveys throughout the UK
  • Provision of ALC and soils technical reporting
  • Agricultural land use, including farm holding appraisal work
  • Writing soils and agricultural land use chapters for environmental statements.
  • Advising clients on the policy implications of schemes on soils and agricultural receptors
  • Working with clients to develop and implement soil management plans
  • Potential to develop skills in wider land use assessment, including appraisals of community, recreation and common land assets
  • Potential to develop broader skills in EIA management through integration into the wider team.

Who we're looking for
With experience within this sector, you'll already be familiar with what we're looking for.

You'll be an Agricultural Land Classification (ALC), soils and land use specialist, who has experience in carrying out Agricultural Land Classification and soil resource assessment work, including desk top appraisal and site survey.

You'll be experienced in ALC survey work and be able to write ALC and soil survey reports. Ideally, you'll be able to carry out farm holding appraisal work. You will need to be able to author a Land Use/ Agricultural chapter for an environmental statement.
