Overview of Essential Responsibilities:


Clinical/Professional Responsibilities

Paediatric Diabetes
To work within the Paediatric Diabetes service for two days a week (days to be negotiable)

To offer CYP with diabetes & their families/carers (as appropriate) emotional support after diagnosis, tailored to their social, cultural, educational & age-dependent needs

To offer assessment of a broad range of psychological problems in CYP with diabetes, to include eating disorders, behavioural, emotional & family functioning problems

To assess the psychological well-being of CYP with diabetes presenting frequently with life-threatening complications of diabetes e.g. diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)

To offer support to CYP and families considering insulin pump therapy, to assess understanding & expectations of pump therapy before starting pump therapy & assess the need for support after starting pump therapy

To assess the emotional & psychological needs of CYP with diabetes following referral from paediatric diabetes team. Patients may be referred after CYP/parental request, after identification of a need for assessment in clinic/home visit, or following routine screening ("Wellbeing in Diabetes questionnaire")

To prioritise the patients who are referred according to psychological & medical need after discussion with the team
