We have an opportunity for a Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice to join our Estates Management Team that maintains and develops a substantial estate at one of the country's foremost Teaching Foundation Trusts.

This is a fixed term role for the duration of the apprenticeship and the assessment period.

You will receive full training via the Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship and must be committed to the training and willing to learn new skills.

Estates plays a crucial role in keeping our hospitals and services running.

From essential power, heating, plumbing and mechanical systems, to the inside and outside of our buildings and grounds, Estates staff make sure these are safe and well-maintained for our patients, visitors, and other staff.


Our staff have a wide range of expertise and skills - from construction trades and technical skills, building and site management, surveying, and more.

Together they carry out vital inspections, maintenance, and repairs across our sites, so that we can keep giving excellent care to our patients.

The Estates Directorate provide a comprehensive Estate Management Service to all the Trust's properties.


The purpose of this job is to work as an Apprentice Carpenter/Joiner to develop knowledge and skills by assisting qualified Building Craftsman in carrying out day to day maintenance on a wide range of properties for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The apprentice is expected to work with other joiners or maintenance staff in a team. There is also a chance to work independently on smaller jobs as the apprentice progress through the programme.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 2 years due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme.

The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

The apprentice allowance as specified in the Minimum Wage Regulations will be paid for the first 12 months.

The rate will increase after 12 months in line with these regulations for anyone that is age 19 or over.
