The steel industry is a strategically important sector supplying materials into key economic sectors such as energy, public infrastructure, transport, construction, and manufacturing.

In doing so, the steel sector sits at the heart of the green industrial revolution, being essential to building our new green infrastructure from windfarms to hydrogen networks, to electric vehicles, but also representing a major decarbonisation challenge of its own.

Moreover, the sector provides thousands of skilled, well-paid jobs outsideof the southeast and is critical for ambitions of levelling-up and a renewed industrial strategy.

The successful postholder will have:

  • A good level of knowledge in at least one of the following policy areas: environment, standards, international trade, industrial/manufacturing, or business environment.
