About the Role:

Clacton PCN has an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and enthusiastic paramedic to join our PCN.

You will be based at East Lynne Medical Centre, but will be required to travel between all of the GP practices within our PCN.

his role is offered on a part-time basis, for 22.5 hours per week.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working as part of the clinical team which will include telephone triage, visiting patients in their home and surgery consultations.
  • Providing care for the patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.
  • Demonstrating safe, clinical decision making, acting within your professional boundaries and qualifications.
  • Working collaboratively with all clinical and administrative staff to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of our patients.
  • Using advanced clinical skills to provide education to service users, promoting selfcare and empower them to make informed choices about their treatment.
  • Undertaking the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs etc. Perform investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.
  • Must own vehicle with driving license for home visits.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration and have postregistration experience, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Evidence of relevant CPD;
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Evidence of experience/competency in the form of a professional portfolio;
  • Able to challenge differing opinions professionally and appropriately as a patient advocate;
  • Ideally BSC in a training programme approved by the college of paramedics and ALS;
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload;
  • Ability to work flexibly in core hours to meet the needs of the service;
  • Proven ability to work autonomously in the primary care setting;
  • Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients;
  • Be able to evaluate patient care confidently;
  • Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines;
  • Understanding of health education/promotion;
  • Understanding of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act and clinical governance;
  • Ability to participate in audit and standard setting;
  • Awareness of equality and valuing diversity principles;
  • To exhibit excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills;
  • Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively;
  • Experience of autonomous practice working and multiprofessional team working;
  • Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children;
  • Experience in using IT based patient documentation systems;
  • Record keeping skills.

As a PCN, we are a diverse multidisciplinary team lead by Clinical Director, Dr Tanvir Alam and PCN Clinical Lead Nikki Potts.

With support from Faye Batson for operational management.


Our PCN clinical roles consist of paramedics, clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists, McMillan cancer care nurse, care coordinators, GP assistants, physician associates, children's mental health worker & children's councillor as well as social prescribers.

All of these roles work towards bridging the gap between primary and secondary care as well as giving our PCN patients an improved assessment and service.
