The Citizens Advice service in Esher is seeking an experienced generalist adviser to provide information and support to food bank clients in east Elmbridge, with the aim of helping to address the causes of food poverty.
This is a new role funded by the Trussell Trust to support those most in need in our local community.
Based in the two food banks in Thames Ditton and West Molesey, our adviser will work with food bank users to help them maximise their incomes, manage their money and ultimately reduce their need for food bank support.
Working closely with the East Elmbridge foodbank team the work will involve signposting, providing specific support and advice, or referring people to specialist advisers within our Citizens Advice service.
We're looking for someone who has experience of offering advice and assistance on a range of enquiry areas (including benefits, debt, housing and employment), and who can thrive independently in a pressured, client-facing environment.
To be successful in this vital role, you will:
- Be non-judgemental and able to engage sensitively with people who may be vulnerable and distressed
- Be a confident communicator, with good listening skills and the ability to understand and explain information of some complexity
- Be highly organised, able to prioritise work and keep accurate case records
