An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead Brighton and Hove City Council's Corporate Performance Team.

This position is permanent and full-time, although a job share and other various forms of flexible working will be considered.


As the Corporate Performance Lead, you will help drive the council's performance management framework and statutory requirements for continuous improvement.


You will work closely with people at all levels across the council, from senior managers to front line service delivery, to take a systemic approach to embedding a performance culture and ensuring strong corporate governance.


About the role:

This is a highly strategic role reporting to the Assistant Director for our Customer, Modernisation and Performance Insight service.


This role is an opportunity for you to have a real impact by using your expertise and credibility to influence corporate performance, processes and resourcing within the council.

Alongside management and development of the team, you will operate as a conduit across all council directorates, providing support to and challenging Executive Directors and Heads of Service to ensure timely and robust performance management, in line with agreed corporate practice.


You will promote good governance and best practice and be relentless in the pursuit of performance improvement, working closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that a true understanding of the council's performance can be reported to elected councillors, the public, senior officers and staff.


You will be responsible for leading, managing and developing a small team of Performance Analysts and will be accountable for delivery of the team's work in a timely and efficient way.

The team are currently working in a hybrid way. Applicants may work flexibly but will be expected to attend the office where service demands require it. Should working from home not be possible, office accommodation is available.

About you

You will have:

  • Substantial experience of developing and delivering a performance management framework
  • Experience of developing relationships and communicating sometimes complex issues effectively and proactively, with various internal and external stakeholders including all levels of management
  • The ability to manage personal competing and conflicting deadlines as well as for the team for which you are accountable
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to produce clear reports and to proactively report the appropriate level of detail to relevant stakeholders
  • Commitment to making services fair and inclusive for all our customers via effective performance management
