General Operative - Environment Scotland

Angus/Dundee
An opportunity has emerged for a General Operative to be part of the team at Galliford Try.

Working in our DV2 water framework, we are seeking a General Operative for our joint venture framework.

Based in the North/ East, you will assist the project teams throughout the project life-cycle.


We seek experienced and confident individuals with a solid background in civil engineering projects, displaying a positive, open, and friendly demeanor.


What You Will be Doing:


  • As an experienced general operative, you will handle general laboring duties, material unloading (both mechanical and manual), material moving/loading, excavation work, pipework installations, concrete tasks, and general civil engineering operations. You must maintain high standards of health and safety while performing your tasks. Work safely under the guidance of a Site Manager.
  • Follow specific site health and safety rules.
  • Safely operate hand, power, and percussive tools.
  • Adhere to site organization procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and stock of welfare facilities.
  • Carry out duties as instructed by site management.
  • Keep the site tidy and presentable.
  • Assist in excavation and installation activities as directed by the site supervisor.
  • Have knowledge of safe construction practices.
  • Identify site hazards and dangers.
  • Accept advice from site management.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and site management.
  • Utilize tools to deliver quality work.
  • Ensure company property is well-maintained and securely stored.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and adhere to COVID measures.

About You:


  • Ability to work safely.

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and pride.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience in water mains laying, pipe laying, civil engineering works, bricklaying, concrete tasks, etc.
  • Required certifications: CSCS Card (Essential), DOMS or EUSR Certification (Essential), NRSWA Accreditation (preferred), CPCS roller and dumper training, Slinger/banksman training, Confined space training.
