Purpose of the role:


The Manufacturing Planner is responsible for the forecasting and to plan the manufacturing of goods and raw material supplies through robust planning policies that deliver targeted inventory management, customer service and cost management.

Building and maintaining strong relationships, both internally and externally to ensure stock levels are maintained is essential to this position.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Create and maintain planning policies to produce a plan that meets business objectives.
  • Ensure supply capacity is organized to meet demand.
  • Manage volume fluctuations considering sales vs forecast and adjust accordingly.
  • Manage life cycles of SKUs to ensure stock availability to meet business requirements.
  • Investigate stock discrepancies and stock shortages to determine root cause.
  • Using planning policies manage inventory costs to agreed business objectives.
  • Influence the business customer OTIF with full availability of stock.
  • Ensure internal customer service is maintained to agreed business targets.
  • Produce a Pareto measure to manage actuals vs objective targets.
  • Build key relationships with suppliers to deliver the right stock levels to support the manufacturing sites.
  • Manage the supplier base OTIF and feedback to the purchasing department.
  • Drive planning improvement activities with focus on improving and maintaining customer service levels, reducing cost, and ensuring operational efficiency.

Key Experiences and Skills Required:
A business/engineering degree would be an advantage. A Levels, HNC, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.

  • Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel is essential.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a knowledge of planning processes.
  • Previous experience of manufacturing planning and managing the smooth supply of materials in line with production and experience of using MRP systems or similar.
  • High degree of knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes and components and an understanding of supply chain management or expert knowledge of specialist area.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communicator to all levels, experience dealing with senior level professionals and difficult situations.
  • Drive for continuous improvement, commercial and financial awareness, with a full understanding of the impact of failure with regards to business costs, production targets and fulfilment of customer orders
  • Results orientated and organised with the ability to plan and deliver against deadlines.
