Are you keen to help tackle climate change while protecting manufacturing jobs?

Do you have experience supporting workers as a trade union rep or activist?

And are you good at establishing constructive working relationships?

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) exists to make the working world a better place for everyone. We bring together 5.5 million working people who make up our 50 member unions. We support unions to grow and thrive, and we stand up for everyone who works fora living. Join us.

We're looking for two Project Officers (one full time and one part time role) to help workers in high carbon manufacturing industries future-proof their jobs by preparing for a zero-carbon future.

About the role
The Project Officer will support union reps in high carbon manufacturing industries (e.g. automotive, steel) to work with their members to develop and promote worker-led decarbonisation plans for their workplaces.

By building capacity and organising strategies amongst union members and growing supportive coalitions for worker-led transition plans, this project aims to protect jobs against offshoring and cut carbon emissions.

This project forms part of the TUC's work promoting a rapid and just transition to a safe climate future that protects quality jobs.

What key experience, skills, knowledge and understanding do you need?

  • A commitment to protecting manufacturing jobs and tackling climate change
  • Experience of supporting workers and their trade unions as a workplace representative or trade union activist
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and make a constructive contribution to teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to network and establish productive working relationships, and to provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to develop an understanding of relevant policy and technical considerations, with support from experts and our policy team
TUC staff enjoy a good benefits package including a final salary pension scheme and other benefits.
