The role

This is a new role within the Investment Advice team, which is part of the Investment Strategy & Advice (ISA) department of USS Investment Management (USSIM) Limited:

USSIM is the wholly owned investment manager and advisor of USS, the pension trustee company
:

The ISA department is a central team, responsible for the construction and implementation of the investment strategy and providing investment advice to stakeholders across the DB and DC sections of the scheme
:

The Investment Advice team is responsible for providing investment advice to USS, which is usually through either the Investment Committee or the Trustee Board.

The successful applicant will focus on the production of investment advice to the Scheme's stakeholders:

The successful applicant will help to ensure that the advice provided to USS is clear, robust and in the best financial interests of the scheme and its members.
*****As a new role in a small team, the successful applicant will have autonomy and responsibility, as well as the ability to shape how the role develops over time.

Key responsibilities

Supporting the production of investment advice materials (usually in PowerPoint and Word) to the relevant boards (e.g. Investment Committee, Trustee Board or USSIM Board):

-
The types of investment advice we provide can include asset allocation (across the DB and DC section), asset liability management, investment governance and various topics related to the actuarial valuation

Ensuring the advice being produced by the team is of the highest quality, clear, unambiguous, written in plain English and in the best financial interests of the scheme and its members.

Ability to extract insights from technical documents and/or quantitative analysis and translate into simple advice:

Interest in investment and pensions (both Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution):

Proficient at Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint:

Strong compliance culture and high personal ethical standards

Experience in institutional investment (e.g. pensions or insurance):

  • Progress towards investment, actuarial or pensions qualifications (e.g. CFA, FIA or PMI):

Keen to stay up to date with developments affecting the UK pensions industry:

Broad understanding of investment matters across asset classes (e.g. LDI, equities, credit and private markets):

Interest in responsible investment, ESG and sustainability:

Programming skills (e.g. VBA or Python):

Visual interface skills (e.g. Power BI or Tableau):

Experience with Bloomberg terminal
