  • Our Engineering Design, Engineering Delivery and Highway teams in the Highways, Engineering and Transport Group is looking for three Trainee Technicians.
  • This is a great opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Civil Engineer Technician apprenticeship, which will provide you with a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours whilst gaining real work experience. You will attend Fareham College CETC campus (which we understand will come under the banner of South Hampshire College Group from 1st August 2023) for a one day a week where you will develop your knowledge in areas such as digital techniques, site investigations, project programming, environmental policies, budgets, design, maintenance, and sustainability.   • After studying and working towards a Level 3 qualification there are many options available for further development. Previous apprentices have gone on to complete a Level 4 HND or a Level 6 Civil Engineering degree supported by the council and the continuous development we offer. Staff are also supported to gain professional accreditations such as Engineer Technician, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status. Whichever route you choose to take, you will be supported throughout by colleagues who have followed the same path.
  • As a Trainee Technician, you will learn from Technicians and Engineers, and dependant on your motivations and experience, you will work in either the Engineering Design or Delivery teams producing highway designs utilising 3D design software, or overseeing their construction on site, or working in the Highway team undertaking inspections, repairs, and emergencies. You will need good planning, organisation, and communication skills and will have a willingness to learn and broaden your skills in areas of sustainable construction, materials, asset management and highway engineering.

Additional Information:


  • The postholder is expected to attend training and complete a threeyear Level 3 Civil Engineer Technician apprenticeship to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours as set out in the standard.
