Immigration Adviser [OISC Level 1]


The post holder will provide one-to-one specialist advice, casework and practical support to migrant and refugee clients in the Greater Manchester area in the areas of immigration & asylum (up to OISC L1), and provide additional advice in the areas of housing & homelessness, welfare benefits, and family and community care law.


  • Work Location Opportunity for agile working (from home and from Europia office)
  • Salary £21,000 to £23,000 per year full time hours (35 hours per week) dependent on experience.
  • Hours per week Full time (35 hours per week)
  • 12 month fixed term contract from start date employment

Role Summary:


Europia is a charity based in Manchester which predominantly provides support services to Europeans who are based in the local community.

Europia has recently expanded its immigration department and is OISC registered to provide advice at levels The immigration department provides services to people within the area and beyond.

The post holder will be an enthusiastic and experienced level 1 OISC adviser.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide onetoone specialist advice (including immigration advice to OISC
  • Provide thorough followup casework (including immigration casework) and support where appropriate;
  • Provide clear and accurate signposting, referrals and active referrals where possible and appropriate;
  • Provide outreach and accompany clients as necessary to e.g. refuges & hostels, medical and therapeutic appointments, etc.; or supervise volunteers to do so where appropriate;
  • Actively develop professional relationships and referral links with law centres and solicitors' firms, and refer/signpost clients to other services & agencies as appropriate;
  • Manage own caseload, keeping clear, accurate and timely records of all work done;
  • Assist in evidencing the impact of work done, including recording, monitoring and reporting against project targets;

Other responsibilities

  • Participating in regular team meetings and events & participating in other advice and staff team commitments, supervision, core trainings and meetings as necessary including sharing welfare knowledge
  • Support in the providing of management information, regular case studies and other detailed information & reports as required;
  • Ensure that work is monitored and evaluated and quality assured to meet internal and external requirements;
  • Commitment to human rights, community development, diversity, and best practice in working with vulnerable migrants;
  • Carrying out any other duties as required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENT
Registered at OISC Level 1 Essential


EXPERIENCE SPECIFIC TO ROLE
A minimum of 1 year experience working in immigration at OISC level 1 Essential managing your own case load with a wide experience to include the preparing of the following cases:

  • EU Settlement Scheme
  • Entry clearance visas
  • Initial leave to remain
  • Further leave to remain
  • ILR
  • Nationality
  • Skilled worker

Essential

  • Experienced at independently managing own caseload
  • Experienced at advising clients and working with minimum supervision
  • Experienced at keeping timely and accurate notes on a CMS
  • Experienced at working with OISC regulations and commitment to complying with them
  • Experienced at drafting documents and correspondence commensurate with the role

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and networking skills and the ability to relate well and communicate clearly and respectfully with a diverse range of people and organisations and build effective working relationships
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Personal resilience and the ability to maintain clear professional boundaries and manage expectations
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, plan and organise own work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work competently with Microsoft Office ICT packages and case management systems
  • Ability to support and line manage a small team / volunteers
  • Good understanding of Eastern European communities
  • Able to speak an Eastern European language as well as English

Salary:
£21,000.00-£23,000.00 per year
