Where in the world of OVO will I be working?
This role can be based in our London or Bristol offices were hybrid and flexible working.

This role sits within the Energy Strategy function, which is part of the wider Energy team at OVO. The Energy team is responsible for developing and delivering the Commercial Strategy for OVO's 4m Energy Supply customers.


Within this team, the Energy Strategy function drives the development of the medium and long term commercial strategy for OVO's Energy business.

You'll be leading the Energy Innovation strand, working closely with the other Energy Strategy strands (Market Insight and Flexibility), and with stakeholders across the wider Energy Team and beyond.

As a member of a lean and strategic function, you'll be working with senior stakeholders within and outside of OVO.


Decarbonisation is the biggest challenge of our time, and at the heart of our mission at OVO to power human progress with clean affordable energy for everyone.

Decarbonisation, and the recent energy crisis, is driving a rapid change in how consumers engage with their energy use.

This role will be a key driver for change both within and without OVO; identifying, refining and sponsoring innovations to help our customers on the Path to Zero.

OVO has a history of challenging the status quo, and we are bringing this entrepreneurial spirit to the decarbonisation challenge to find cheaper, simpler ways to put consumers at the heart of the energy transition.


What will I be doing?


The overarching goal of this role is to lead the development of an engaging Energy proposition roadmap that will enable OVO to develop and maintain a clear competitive position as the market evolves through the energy transition.

A key area of focus will be the impact of the upcoming Market Wide Half Hourly Settlement reform, but this role will consider opportunities across a broad cross-section of the market to drive strategic and tactical value.

The energy industry is in a period of rapid change.

This role will need to be agile to the changing market conditions and priorities, operating across multiple time horizons simultaneously to deliver the overarching goal.

Key activities will include;

  • Lead OVO participation in relevant innovation trials related to the Energy business line
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap of our Energy "value propositions" over the long term (210 years), utilising our Market Insight Vision for how the energy market will evolve.
  • Develop and maintain a medium term (624 months) view of value proposition evolution. This includes working closely with our Commercial Propositions team to support the refinement of Innovations to Customer Propositions.
  • Lead businesscasing in the short term (up to 6 months) of Energy Propositions to support the prioritisation and delivery of Propositions by the Commercial team.
  • Horizonscanning UK and global markets for relevant innovations and inspiration, supported by the Market Insight strand.

Is this the job for me?

It is important that you have:

  • A commercial and strategic mindset able to interpret research and market design into opportunities.
  • Strong and broad communication skills, with a track record of engaging stakeholders at all levels of a business, including C Suite.
  • Strong prioritisation skills with a flexible, "find a way" mentality
  • Strong attention to detail with expert, technical knowledge of UK energy markets.
  • Strong commercial analytical and modelling skills
  • Good stakeholder management, forming strong relationships internally and externally. A team player, open communicator and collaborator.

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in product, proposition and/or business development
  • Passion for setting the future agenda for the energy industry
  • Experience in startup, scaleup or rapidgrowth businesses
