The Public Health Team at Swindon Borough Council is seeking to recruit three Public Health Practitioners to work on the Health Improvement portfolio to support our key priorities of active travel, healthy weight and tobacco control.

Our highly successful public health team works to improve and protect the health of Swindon residents, tackle health inequalities and protect the most vulnerable.


Main duties of the job


As a Public Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing practitioner support and expertise to improve population health and wellbeing.

You will work with a range of partners to develop and deliver a sustainable programme of activities, using a range of evidence-based public health skills and expertise to ensure our interventions are targeted to reduce inequalities and to deliver our strategic priorities.

We are recruiting three separate fixed-term Public Health Practitioner posts, each of which contributes to our priority areas.

  • Air quality and promoting active travel
  • Healthy weight and promoting active travel
  • Tobacco control and reducing the prevalence of smoking in Swindon


We offer you hybrid working at the present time with a requirement to be able to travel to Swindon Borough Council Offices and across the Borough as required.


About You

  • Experience working in the field of public health, a healthrelated area or in an area directly relevant to these posts.
  • A good working knowledge of different aspects of public health.
  • Understanding of local government, NHS, public, voluntary and community sector.
  • An understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation.
