Description
Acorn by Synergie is currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Smoke Enforcement Officer.

The role is at the GUH with rota (07:00 / 15:00 - 11:00 / 19:00) rotating every other week.

Job Summary

You will work to promote a smoke-free culture within the hospital grounds of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

You will be based at the Grange University Hospital, Nevill Hall Hospital or at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

You will also travel to other hospitals, such as Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr and St. Cadocs on a regular basis. In addition to this, you may visit community premises at intervals, including ABUHB sites, educational sites and public playgrounds.

You will work within the hospital and grounds and other sites as above, with the aim of reinforcing the Health Board's Smoke-Free Environment Policy and the Welsh Government's Smoke-Free Legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • You will work within a supervised framework to engage with smokers on site to provide brief advice, information resources and behaviour change support, to members of the public, patients and staff where appropriate.
  • You will specifically signpost people who require further information and support to NHS Help Me Quit Smoking Cessation Services.
  • You will communicate and work closely with hospital staff to support inpatients to refrain from smoking while in hospital. This will include visiting the hospital wards, linking with the Smoking Cessation System for inpatients and delivering brief advice to patients who have been identified as smoking. You will also offer support to patients, whether they wish to abstain whilst in hospital or make a quit attempt and link with the Help Me Quit team.
  • You will record all contact and actions and regularly report this to their manager and the Public Health Team.

You will also be part of the Facilities Team and may be asked to support other roles within this team from time to time.

Working alongside other members of the Facilities Team, including Security staff and the Car Parking team, you will ensure all members of the team are aware of the Smoke-Free approach and agenda.

They will be line managed through the Facilities directorate but will receive regular support, training and guidance from the Aneurin Bevan Gwent Public Health Team.

Other details

You must be able to drive due to training and guidance across the Health Board. The role is also difficult to get to on public transport.

Acorn by Synergie acts as an employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
