Job Title:
Young Carers Support Worker - Peripatetic


Salary:
Grade 6 - £12.42 per hour
Hours: 35 Hours Per Week Working from our centres in Kilmarnock, Cumnock and Dalmellington


Post holder will be required to work from any one of our centres which may change at short notice in order to provide cover where needed.

Post holder can expect patterns of work from 9-5, 9-6, 10-6, 11-8 and may be required to take part in residential respite breaks for young carers predominantly in school holiday periods.

Overall Objectives:
East Ayrshire Carers Centre provide information, advice and support to carers throughout East Ayrshire.


The Young Carers Support Worker will be based in East Ayrshire and work between our centres in Kilmarnock, Dalmellington and Cumnock.


The post holder will be part of a team responsible for providing a one to one bespoke service to young carers.

They will help identify hidden young carers through social media communication, networking meetings, marketing events and school presentations.

Must have and have held a full driving licence for a minimum of three years and have access to own vehicle throughout their working hours


Major Functions/Accountabilities:

  • To identify and support young carers aged from 5 to 25 years old
  • To carry out an initial assessment of the needs of the young carers via a Young Carers Statement to determine outcomes as per the carers (Scotland) Act 201
  • To develop strong social media presence to promote and market this project and activities to ensure this service has a high public profile
  • To communicate this project through networking meetings and marketing events
  • To liaise with primary and secondary schools and deliver presentations to support and identify hidden young carers.
  • To find hard to reach young carers who are socially and/or financially excluded
  • To provide training, social and leisure activities and respite breaks to young carers
  • To support young carers transitioning from primary to secondary school
  • To work with our employability team to support young carers aged 14 to 19, during their transition periods from secondary school to further education, training or employment
  • To organise group and 1:1 sessions for young carers
  • To ensure project targets and outcomes are met
  • To be available to support young carers on respite breaks out with East Ayrshire and including overnight stays
  • Any other tasks or duties as reasonably requested

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 24 months

£12.42 per hour
