Job purpose:


The Family and Youth Engagement Worker is a new role within our organisation, which will provide additional support to an existing team working in London providing comprehensive support to young people and families living with HIV.


The role encompasses family-based support, organising and facilitating group meet-up events, offering guidance and support around engaging with services, and providing mentoring and coaching support to individual young people.


The role will be pivotal in furthering the charity's mission to enhance the health and well-being of children, young people, and young adults growing up with HIV.


Key Responsibilities:


Family-Based Support:

Provide emotional and practical support to families living with HIV, with a focus on family-based support for families with younger children living with HIV.

Working with Specialist Support Officers to help implement support plans to address identified needs.

Collaborate with external agencies and professionals to engage families with wider support and help them to access resources.

Group Meet-Up Events:
Plan, organise, and facilitate group meet-up events for young people and families. Create a supportive and inclusive environment for sharing experiences and building connections and enhancing HIV knowledge and understanding. Coordinate logistics, including venue booking, organising catering, and travel for attendees.

Engagement with services:
Guide and support young people in accessing healthcare, educational, and wider services to meet identified needs. Advocate for the rights and needs of young people within healthcare and educational systems. Develop partnerships with local services and organisations to enhance support networks.

Mentoring and Coaching:
Provide mentoring to young people living with HIV. Offering coaching support to enhance life skills, wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem. Foster a positive and empowering relationship with young people and help to engage them in social support.

Collaboration and Networking:
Collaborate with other team members to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to support. Network with external organisations, in public and community sector to strengthen partnerships. Represent the charity at relevant events and meetings.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Professional qualification in social work, youth work, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support to individuals and families facing healthrelated challenges.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver group events or workshops.
  • Knowledge of the issues faced by young people and families living with HIV.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships.

Desirable

  • Lived experience or direct experience working with individuals and families affected by HIV.
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching young people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Being a driver would be an advantage.

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Pay:
£30,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
