PERMANENT PART TIME CLEANER IN CHARGE

Grade:
£23500 per annum pro rata (approx £12.18 per hour, actual salary before tax approx. £9527 per annum) SCP5 (Grade 4)
Expected to be 15 hours per week; paid for 52 weeks a year
Main Purpose:
To be responsible for the effective cleaning, security and operation of the school premises, ensuring a clean and hygienic school environment which meets specified cleaning standards
The role will require 15 hours per week (generally 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, ideally 3.30pm -6.30pm, although there is some flexibility with this; for example all hours could be done in the evening, Friday's hours could be done on Saturday or Sunday).
You will be required to work in school holidays although the hours can be worked more flexibly; you will have an annual leave entitlement (to be taken within school holiday closure periods).
Key Tasks
Cleaning duties in the school (see cleaning schedule):
- Clean surfaces, fixtures and fittings
- Clean floors, walls, partitions, doors and internal woodwork as appropriate
- Clean staffroom food preparation / serving areas
- Clean sinks, toilets, cloakrooms and other sanitary areas
- Clean equipment after use
- Undertake special cleaning programmes during school closure or other designated periods
Security of premises and key holding:
- Maintain the security of school premises by securing entrances and exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
- Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off as appropriate
- Lock up and set alarm upon departure (and open up in if morning hours agreed)
- Act as "Key Holder" for the school as necessary
- Check for damage / vandalism (particularly for outdoor play equipment) and ensure keys are kept securely
Waste management:
- Collect and bag up waste (including waste bin on edge of field)
- Clean and maintain waste bins (including keeping bin area tidy)
- Gather and remove litter from inside school and hard surface areas outside
Energy & heating:
- Ensure the satisfactory heating of the premises and the economic use of fuel (e.g. changing
Occasional maintenance / handyperson / porterage duties:
- Replacing (to a safe height) electric bulbs, tubes and starter units.
- Keeping drains/sinks/waste pipes clear of debris (including clearing leaves from external drains as required)
- Treatment of pathways and steps with salt, grit and sand during periods of ice & snow
- Cleaning of external areas: Leaves seasonally; Litter/broken glass daily as needs arise
- Receive deliveries made after 3.30pm
- Report maintenance requirements to appropriate person; Make arrangements for emergency maintenance outside normal office hours if necessary
Organisation of cleaning stocks and supplies:
- Monitor and manage stock and supplies within an agreed budget
- Refill and replace consumables including toilet rolls, paper towels and bin liners
- Ensure availability of equipment and cleaning supplies to staff as necessary
Health and safety:
- Report faulty equipment or defects to appropriate person (Head of School, Executive Headteacher or Health & Safety officer)
- Ensure safe use by self of equipment and materials
- Organise cleaning routines to comply with specified standards
- Ensure compliance by self with all health and safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate and assist others in safe and effective use of specialist equipment/materials
- Promote and ensure the health and safety of school users at all times
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school:
- Liaise with Executive Headteacher/Head of School & attend meetings as required
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Participate in training and other learning activities as required
- Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others
- Assist in the supervision, training and development of staff where appropriate
- Establish constructive relationships and communication with contractors and other agencies /professionals
- Treat all users of the school with courtesy and consideration
- Present a positive personal image, contributing to a welcoming school environment which supports equal opportunities for all
