About the Role:


Lister Medical Centre has an opportunity for a prescribing and recalls administrator to join our busy prescribing team, at the heart of our patient care service.

This role is offered on part-time basis, for 33 hours per week working the following shift pattern

  • Monday 8.30am to 5pm
  • Tuesday 8.30am to 1pm
  • Wednesday 8.30am to 5pm
  • Thursday 8.30am to 1pm
  • Friday 8.30am to 5pm

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis and raise blood request forms as appropriate, ensuring compliance with the practice protocol.
  • Ensure all current medication have relevant, current authorisations.
  • Reauthorise repeat prescriptions where necessary in line with the practice protocol.
  • Be the main point of contact for all prescription queries from a range of healthcare professionals including; GP's, nurses, community pharmacists, nursing home staff as well as reception/administration staff at the practice and patients.
  • Ensure that expiry dates on repeat prescriptions are harmonised for each patient.
  • In liaison with the clinical pharmacist, monitor specific drugs for overuse and report findings to the relevant GP.
  • Communicate with new doctors in medication review protocols and practice formulary choices.
  • Update existing doctors in new protocol developments.
  • Advise the clinical pharmacist and GPs when patient medication reviews are required.
  • Attend medicine management meetings and other practice meetings when requested to do so.
  • Generate patient recall letters for smears as required.
  • Complete patient recall letters if required and cover the recall clerk during annual leave and absences.
  • Responsible for managing and producing recall letters for long term patient conditions.
  • Arrange and print patient blood test forms.
  • Scan and data entry of paper documents.
  • Computer data input.
  • Photocopying as and when required by the practice.

  • Have a good standard of general education with minimum grades in Maths & English or equivalent
  • Computer literacy able to produce a wide range of documents
  • Able to investigate complex queries and anomalies when required.

  • Awareness of data protection and confidentiality
General practice experience and knowledge of_ _SystmOne would be an advantage.

We are a friendly, supportive, democratic, well organised and enthusiastic GMS practice, dedicated to providing traditional family orientated general practice based at a new purpose built single site health centre in Harlow.

We currently have approx 20,000 patients, 5 partners, 3 salaried GPs, a large nursing support team and a vast array of administrative staff.

We are a training practice and also teaching practice for Cambridge students. We are also a research practice.

We are consistent high achievement in all QOF and Enhanced Services areas with an innovative team structure with individual patient lists (around 2,500 per FTE GP)We operate the SystmOne computer system.

We are active members of local GP federation and ICB.


Lister Medical Centre has easy access to M11/M25, close to London and Stansted and attractive Essex and Hertfordshire countryside and excellent schools.
