Job IntroductionNetwork Rail Air Operations team offers a unique service - we provide aerial derived data of the rail infrastructure capture by either one of our helicopters or by drone.
The data is used by many different parts of Network Rail to help predict & prevent issues that could impact the running of trains, if not addressed and resolved.
The team uses several different kinds of cameras and sensors on the various aerial platforms, such as High Definition, Thermal Imaging, and soon an exciting brand-new camera system that will include both an infrared camera and LiDAR.

Main Responsibilities
What will you be doing?
As Head of Air Operations, you will lead a dynamic, visionary, team in Route Services that is dedicated to working with our customers to understand and deliver their aerial data requirements.
Your other priorities will be overseeing the helicopter operations programmes, keeping policies and processes updated, and delivering optimal value to Network Rail.
As part of this role, you will be working with a number of our partners such as the British Transport Police, Freight and Train Operating Companies, as well as our Regions & Route Businesses.

We are looking for an experienced aviation professional to continue with guiding our work forward whilst also continuously improving the delivery of creative, cost effective, solutions in aerial inspection and survey services.
You will be required to collaborate with senior internal and external stakeholders & customers, which will include senior partners and other bodies such as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), British Standards Institute (BSI) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
You will need to demonstrate experience and knowledge of successful leadership of major and complex change management projects in a related field.
Demonstrable experience or knowledge of the piloted / non-piloted aircraft sector and regulatory environment is a requirement for the role.

Essential
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent
- Commercially astute, persuasive and customer focussed
- Good people management and communication skills
- Commercial aviation qualification
- Knowledge of Railway Operations
- Change management experience
- Significant experience in senior management roles
- Knowledge of commercial helicopter operations
