We are seeking a competition legal practitioner (e.g. solicitor, barrister) to join the global Practical Law Antitrust and Competition team.

About the role

Position Title:
Senior Specialist Legal Editor, Practical Law Competition

Position Type:

Contractor (3-4 days a week)**As a Senior Specialist Editor in Practical Law, you will use your specialist legal knowledge of competition law to provide and maintain a wide range of Practical Law content covering the UK and EU.

Working in a supportive global team of highly experienced colleagues, you will deal with a breadth of interesting UK and EU legal and editorial work.


The main focus of this role will be reviewing and maintaining content for the Competition practice area to reflect the latest legal developments and practice, so that it continues to be of the quality and scope that meets business objectives and needs of customers.

This includes practice notes, checklists, flowchart diagrams, standard documents.

You will take responsibility for certain areas of antitrust and competition law, to ensure that practice area materials are legally correct, well-written, up-to-date and reflect current market practice.


You will also be required to research, draft and edit competition legal know-how resources for Practical Law's online products and services.

You may also be required to undertake other tasks, including:

  • Developing new content ideas for the practice area, including practice notes, standard clauses, checklists, comparative charts, and other competition compliance-focused resources.
  • Commissioning, reviewing, and editing content written internally and externally.
  • Monitoring legal practice and market developments within the EU and UK on competition law topics.
  • Writing, editing, and publishing legal updates and other current awareness resources on competition law.
  • Working with other services to produce crosspractice area materials.


In addition to this, a Senior Specialist Editor will assist the wider Thomson Reuters editorial teams, liaising with sales, marketing, product management, technology, and segment functions, where necessary.


About you

  • At least five years' post qualification experience in either a law firm or inhouse with experience in UK and EU competition and merger control law. Experience in state aid and utilities and sectoral economic regulation is also desirable.
  • Analytical and research skills and the ability to identify key issues
  • A demonstrable interest and ability in writing.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Good, working knowledge of French, or another EU language.
