Job description:


  • This is an exciting opportunity to expand your experience in a finance environment. The post holder will sit within the Finance Directorate in BEIS and play an important and active role in the financial management and strategic direction of the Department.

  • About the team
  • The Finance Business Partner teams are a core part of the Finance Directorate in BEIS, supporting the Department's ambitious agenda.
  • These teams build relationships and work in partnership with policy and delivery colleagues as well as other key stakeholders in corporate services, including financial and commercial specialists, Partner Organisations and other Departments including HM Treasury, to provide a seamless endtoend service to customers. They ensure that colleagues in the wider Department have the knowledge and support they need to manage spend effectively, ultimately supporting the wider Department to meet its objectives.
  • These Senior Finance Business Partner roles will oversee a highprofile policy portfolio, leading a small team of finance professionals and contributing to the work of the wider finance directorate. You will need to be selfstarting, flexible and proactive to respond to complex and diverse financial management challenges and to provide an efficient and effective service to both BEIS budget holders and its partner organisations, as well as central finance teams within BEIS. You will be resultsdriven, collaborative player, with excellent attention to detail and the ability and communication skills to build good working relationships at all levels across the BEIS family.

Person specification:


  • Provide expert advice and challenge to budget holders on financial matters, helping them to live within their delegated budgets and deliver value for money.
  • Build strong relationships with senior policy leads and support them in developing advice to senior officials and Ministers covering financial matters including budgeting treatment and accounting issues as well as Accounting Officer assessments.
  • Champion the importance of strong financial management, insight and stewardship of public funds, underpinned by effective planning, forecasting, risk management and internal controls.
  • Identify possible areas for focus and improvement and develop cost mitigation,
