Are you interested in seeing first-hand how activity can help to promote mental health recovery? Do you enjoy working in a supportive multi-disciplinary team? Would you also be happy to support the nursing team with managing the patients' personal care needs if necessary? Then this job is for you You will be working alongside our ward's Occupational Therapist, as well as independently, in delivering a range of group and 1:1 recreational, creative and social activities.

Heathfield Ward in the Department of Psychiatry, Eastbourne District General Hospital, East Sussex are looking for a committed Band 2 Inpatient Activities Coordinator to assist patients in their mental health recovery by delivering these activities


You will be working alongside our ward's Occupational Therapist and independently in planning and facilitating a range of group and 1:1 recreational, creative and social activities.

You must be able to plan, promote, deliver and adapt these activities in accordance with the patients' needs, abilities and recovery goals.

The successful applicant will have excellent rapport-building and communication skills, be able to work flexibly with a non-judgmental and person-centered approach and, above all, have a compassionate, caring attitude to people who are experiencing mental health difficulties

This post will be based on Heathfield Ward, an 18-bed female-only, predominantly older age functional acute mental health ward.

You must be able to deliver a very high standard of inpatient care, using excellent communication and rapport-building skills in supporting patients with mental health needs.

In addition, you must be responsive to the patients' needs and choices and uphold their right to be treated with dignity and respect.

You must be able to provide activities to groups and individuals to meet their recovery needs as identified by the qualified nursing staff and the ward Occupational Therapist.

You will be given guidance and support to continuously reflect on, evaluate and develop the therapeutic activities offered on the ward.

You will ensure that all the therapeutic areas and the appropriate materials are prepared for use in the activities, continuously monitoring any potential for risk.

You must be able to adopt a flexible approach to planning, organising and prioritising your workload
