HMP Forest Bank is one of the largest prisons in the UK and demonstrates custodial excellence in many areas with an emphasis on risk assessment, addressing comprehensive needs and forming strong links with the community outside which all contribute to reducing reoffending.


Recruitment process:

HMP Forest Bank are recruiting for
10 Operational Support Officers (OSOs) for night shifts.

Competency based interview:
week commencing
6th March 2023.
Start Date of course and training
:10 April 2023.

The training course will last for 4 weeks and you must be available for the full 4 week period from 10 April th May 2023.

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitor "at risk" prisoners at designated intervals, patrolling residential and other areas as required.
  • Complete all administration and auditable paperwork in accordance with specified timeline and standards
  • Observe any prisoner care plans, history sheets and observation book entries and time bound observations
  • Undertake 'first on scene' incident response
  • Model appropriate corporate behavioural standards including representing the establishment and the unit/department in a professional and constructive fashion
  • Provide an efficient and effective support service to operational staff in designated locations within the prison
  • Operate and monitor security and supervision systems within the prison
  • Operate and input data into Sodexo and HMP systems
  • Report any problems or concerns, potential breaches of security or Health and Safety hazards to the Duty Manager immediately.
  • Ensure a thorough handover to incoming staff, making them fully aware of recent and forthcoming events.
  • Undertake duties as required which contribute to the effective operation of the prison.

Package Description
Starting salary of
£23,263.00 per annum in the first year which then increases to
£24,182.00 per annum.
£2000 one-off bonus payment after 12 months.
Nightshift allowance of
£88.33 per month.
