Job Purpose

Support the development of highly engaged communities of College of Arts alumni to benefit strategic priorities in areas such as student employability, the student experience and reputational enhancement.

In collaboration with colleagues across the College, within the College External Engagement Team and Development & Alumni: support an effective alumni engagement programme to increase affinity and goodwill amongst a global alumni community, including communications and events programmes.

Harness the goodwill and expertise amongst this community to support College objectives and develop mutually beneficial networks.
Raise awareness among staff and students in Schools across the College of the benefits of alumni engagement and fundraising. Encourage and support Schools in the development and implementation of their alumni activities.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of alumni engagement activities that specifically aim to build communities of alumni around particular Schools and professions within the College of Arts.
  • As part of the College External Engagement Team, build and maintain relationships with School and College staff, developing knowledge of School programmes and research and raising awareness of the value of alumni engagement. Provide input, helping to identify areas of current and future alumni engagement needs and opportunity. Work with the Colleges Alumni Officer to advise on how these can be met, managing expectations appropriately.
  • Monitor alumni activity across the College and Development and Alumni and working with the College Marketing and Communications team to enable appropriate messaging and timing of promotions activity. Create content for dissemination to College of Arts alumni in an engaging format to inspire and deepen relations, including sharing news and event invitations from across the College and wider University where appropriate.
  • Work with Alumni Engagement colleagues within Development and Alumni and relevant College services teams, to share College of Arts news/events/opportunities for dissemination to wider alumni groups. Keep abreast of AE team strategy and activities to ensure a consistent institutional approach for College specific engagement, including awareness and support of the development of a pipeline of potential donors.
  • Identify alumni from within School/College cohorts that could support all volunteering and fundraising programmes. Support the management of individual relationships by liaising with colleagues and utilising the University's CRM, Raiser's Edge, to log information and track progress.
  • Working with colleagues, coordinate and support College events involving alumni engagement. Ensure CoA alumni are supported with the planning of their own events and reunions, involving relevant colleagues where required in order to maximise engagement and fundraising opportunities.
  • Meet with and engage alumni and identify opportunities for them to support the College through volunteering, advocacy, influence and philanthropy. Represent the College and University as an ambassador at events on and off campus.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date lists of senior and influential alumni within relevant Schools and identify and agree opportunities to engage these alumni with more tailored offerings and opportunities from across the College, connecting them with appropriate academic or other members of staff.
  • Support student employability focused activities coordinated within College and Careers Service including mentoring, presentations and conferences, internships etc., through engagement of alumni with appropriate expertise to help.
  • Alongside colleagues in the College External Engagement Team, support the delivery of appropriate student engagement activities with the aim of raising awareness among students and staff of the alumni community and its benefits, including support of student workshops, Student society events and presence at graduation.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s)


Or:
Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role
A2 Knowledge and understanding of best practice in alumni engagement and how it can be used to support institutional objectives
A3 Knowledge of privacy and data protection issues and understanding of the requirements of working with personal and confidential information
A4 Knowledge of the principles of effective marketing communications including for digital channels
A5 Understanding of the importance of univ
