Job Overview:


The Market Garden is a social enterprise situated on an acre of land within Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, on the south-facing side of Meanwood Valley.

We run a year-round CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or 'veg box' scheme, supplying chemical free and organic produce to more than 100 local households each week.

We host two weekly volunteer days and deliver a seasonal paid traineeship for new growers.

We are looking for an Operations & Community Engagement worker to join our small team.

In this role you will be responsible for some of the behind-the-scenes operations of the market garden, including managing customer accounts and communications, making the weekly produce order, recruiting and inducting new volunteers, delivering publicity and social media campaigns, taking care of everyday financial operations such as processing invoices and finance reports, and occasional input to the co-ordination of seasonal events.


In the long-term our goal is for this role to include work on the development and improvement of the volunteer programme, and creative ideas for ongoing community engagement and delivery of MVUF's charitable aims.


Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Overseeing Ooooby online sales platform for the veg box scheme. Liaise with customers, run billing, write weekly updates, respond to queries and address any issues that arise
  • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining records, preparing reports, and managing budgets
  • Attend weekly market garden team meetings, and occasional farm operations meetings
  • Publicity & social media document the work of the market garden, run promotional campaigns, publicise occasional events and oneoff activities
  • Communications with the Management Committee

Potential duties & responsibilities

  • Purchasing produce from the wholesaler and making sure each customer is allocated the correct portion
  • Event coordination shared responsibility for publicity, liaison, logistics for seasonal events at the market garden
  • Collaboration on the development and improvement of the volunteer programme
  • Creative input to the future direction of the Market Garden project
  • Assist with occasional fundraising efforts, including writing bids and submitting annual reports to funders

General Responsibilities

  • To share in the responsibility for keeping the farm safe, tidy and litter free
  • To lead by example and comply with all MVUF policies and procedures
  • To follow our safeguarding policies and be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults
  • To contribute occasional material for farm publications, social media posts and the MVUF website
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

Requirements:


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in administrative tasks such as record keeping, report writing, and budget management
  • Familiarity with social media platforms for marketing purposes
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse team
  • An understanding of the wider context of ecological and/or sustainable food growing. This may be an understanding of the UK organic movement, knowledge of other projects, or an understanding of organisations like the Organic Growers Alliance, Landworker's Alliance or similar (Desirable)

Job Types:

Contract length: 8 months


Salary:
£11.44 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week
