    Role Overview:Reporting to the Commercial Trading Manager, you will be a key part of the Commercial Trading Team, based in Cheltenham. As part of the team, you'll make underwriting and commercial decisions on the acceptance and rating of risks within detailed guidelines and agreed authority limits within our Caravan Park/Site Operators products. Working towards team income targets, you will influence both sales and retention through a positive trading approach.


Day to day, you'll be required to underwrite and process new business and renewal cases, contributing to the achievement and delivery of the business objectives through our commercial product suite.

You will handle calls with direct customers and brokers alike, develop a working relationship with the insurer through regular referrals and maintain service levels agreements when issuing documentation.


Key responsibilities:


  • Handle new business, renewals, and midterm adjustments within your authority, issuing relevant supporting documentation
  • Contribute to attainment of team income objectives for both New Business and Retention through a successful trading philosophy
  • Support the Senior Trading Underwriter with the continuous improvement of knowledge within the team, sharing best practice and reviewing any developments within the market
  • Refer internally and externally where underwriting authority dictates, and handle internal referrals
  • Comply with binder, internal process and procedures including adherence to compliance
  • Build professional and longstanding relationships with brokers and direct customers alike
  • Build and retain the confidence of the insurer by developing a strong relationship and profitable risk portfolio
  • Undertake training in line with agreed objectives and keep up to date with technical, legal and market requirements maximising all learning tools available, including ongoing desk side coaching
  • Contribute to the quality assurance scorecard of Insurers, through attainment of own quality and technical audits and reviews
  • Ensure that all service standards are achieved, by accurately processing and recording information onto IT Platforms
  • Maintain and develop own personal knowledge and skills through continued professional learning
  • Handle telephone calls maintaining service levels agreements as defined by the business
  • The jobholder will at times act for both the Insured and the Insurer, the jobholder will be responsible for adhering to all the Group's procedures and policies in relation to the identification and management of potential conflicts of interest and for the fair treatment of customers, following the systems and controls.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all colleagues, peers and management
  • To undertake any other tasks as may reasonably be required by the Company.

Skills and Experience:


Essential

  • Responsibility for owning underwriting caseload within a regulatory environment, following due process and within set authority limits
  • Negotiation ability to deal with partners, insurers, brokers and internal colleagues
  • Knowledge of insurance market and insurance products
  • Previous experience working in the commercial insurance sector
  • Fully understand general insurance regulation and business ethics
  • Class of Risk and Product Knowledge
  • The ability to construct a strong report/rationale and be able to communicate this effectively
  • Ability to analyse complex information and draw out the relevant facts
  • Knowledge of insurance market and insurance products
  • Understanding pricing, loss ratios, margins and profitability
  • Proactive, innovative and able to take the initiative
  • Ability to articulate technical issues and influence key contacts in the marketplace
  • Strong numeracy & literacy skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a Trading Underwriter role, or similar
  • Previously worked on schemes under delegated binding authority
  • Proficient in the use of Open GI
  • Comfortable with delivering coaching to junior colleagues
