Are you a former Midwife with the desire and drive to return and re-join the Nursing register? Are you looking for a supportive environment to return?


An exciting opportunity has arisen for midwives who have previously been registered on the NMC UK register to return to delivering compassionate and caring practice whilst being supported to complete a Return to Practice Programme.

Midwives who want to return to the profession have much to offer patients, service users, employers and our community.

Returning to midwifery has never been easier with funded courses available to ease the transition and build skills and to be able to offer a route that is right for you.


In order to return to practice you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Have a previous UK NMC registration
  • Evidence of your education achievements
  • Experience of working in a health or social care setting
  • The ability to undertake the return to practice training

If you are no longer a registered midwife there are three ways you can return to practice:

  • Readmission route directly to the NMC
  • Return to practice course at a university
  • Test of Competence (ToC)
