Job Introduction

Our research has been transforming lives for more than 85 years, and sits at the heart of our mission to create a world where diabetes can do no harm.

We are the UK's largest charitable funder of diabetes research, funding around 130 projects into all types of diabetes and its complications.

Through the Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge - our £50 million partnership with the Steve Morgan Foundation and JDRF - we're leading the race to new treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes.

And we have ambitious plans to scale up research that will improve the lives of people with type 2 or gestational diabetes, and help us to tackle health inequalities that exist in diabetes care.

There's never been a more important time to inspire people to support Diabetes UK's research and help us to continue to improve the lives of people with diabetes and get us closer to a cure.

As a Research Communications Fundraising Officer, you'll play an important role in helping to make life-changing research happen by working with research and fundraising teams to develop compelling and accessible content about the impact of our research for our fundraising audiences.

Main Responsibilities

You'll be working in a busy research communications team and will collaborate with fundraising teams to support the delivery of income generating projects with a focus on demonstrating our research impact to fundraising audiences.

You'll translate complex scientific information into clear, inspiring, and accessible content, including reports, digital and print copy, videos and events, tailored to meet the needs and motivations of each target audience.

You'll build excellent relationships with fundraising colleagues and help to make sure the work of the Research Directorate and Diabetes UK-funded researchers supports and informs our fundraising activities.

Summary of skills, knowledge, behaviours and experience we're looking for

  • Experience of working in a research and/or fundraising organisation.
  • A knowledge of, or an interest in, health research with an ability to make sense of scientific information.
  • Skilled in communicating complex information in accessible and inspiring ways and tailoring messages for different objectives and audiences.
  • Excellent copywriting and editorial skills, with a talent for creating high quality and compelling written content.
  • Skilled at building excellent working relationships and collaborating effectively within a team and across an organisation, considering others' work schedules, priorities and needs.
  • First rate organisational skills and at ease multitasking and reacting to changing priorities.
