Branching Out:

New routes to valuing urban treescapes is an £2.6M interdisciplinary research project (part of the UKRI-funded Treescapes programme) that brings together researchers from University of York, Loughborough University, The Open University, and Forest Research to develop new ways of mapping, predicting, and communicating social and cultural values to support robust, evidence-based decision making and management for urban treescapes.


Role:


The main purpose of this role is to a) support the planning and delivery of a series of participatory design workshops at three focal cities (York, Milton Keynes, Cardiff) with the project team and external partners and publics, and b) to design interactive prototypes from design concepts that emerge from the workshops.

Workshops and design concepts will be partially informed by existing project research from the wider project team.

This role is offered at full time hours and is fixed term for 12 months until 31 July 2024


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:


  • Knowledge in interaction design and human computer interaction to engage in high quality research, including prototyping skills (essential)
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and design research (desirable)
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies (essential)
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media (essential)
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination (essential)
  • Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research (essential)
