We have an exciting opportunity for a
Data Governance Officer to be based at our Head Office in
Birmingham.

This is a multifaceted role supporting the Data Protection Officer, focusing on our data governance, information records management, quality and data mapping amongst other data protection duties.

The key aim of the role is to help and support the Data Privacy team with the delivery and continuous improvement of data


What you'll do...

  • Support the ongoing identification and reporting of data protection issues, incidents and trends.
  • Supporting the management and delivery of the Data Governance and Compliance strategy by ensuring our information records management and retention controls are in place and operating effectively.
  • Manage the deployment record keeping and ongoing engagement with information asset owners to create, update and manage our Record of Processing Activities.
  • Supporting the annual audit program by conducting data protection and records management audits, report writing and offering advice and guidance on reducing any identified risks.
  • Support in the development and delivery of data protection and records management training and awareness.
  • Manage the team's internal and external communication inboxes, prioritising requests to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and business timescales.
  • To support the triage, management and assessment of the UK data breach incident management process keeping a clear record of near misses, potential breaches of personal data and actual data protection breaches.
  • Assist in the development, delivery and audit of any certificated standards, (ISO9001 and ISO27001).
  • Maintain and update the business' privacy notices, registers and action plans to ensure the comply with the law and business controls.
  • Participate in projects and change requests, advise and implement processes and training to ensure any new systems, processes are compliant.

What you'll need...

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Holding a data protection qualification or practitioner certificate
  • Demonstrable experience gained within a privacy role or similar compliance type role
  • Strong understanding of the GDPR and Data Protection Act 201
  • Confidence in challenging information/views in relation to complex Data Protection matters
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organisational skills.
  • Experience with documenting, analysing and improving business processes
  • Proactive attitude, with a willingness to support all data protection initiatives
  • Selfsufficient and able to prioritise and carry out tasks with minimum supervision
  • Management of a complex and diverse workload and the ability to deal with conflicting and changing demands
