About the Role:

Underwrite Commercial Property within Corporate, PFI/PPP and Risk Managed segments.


Whilst based in London this position will support our growth ambitions with key brokers throughout the UK and may involve occasional travel.


The role will also involve working closely with our Casualty team to provide cross class solutions, when appropriate, for our brokers and clients.

Our Commercial Property insurance team has a strong reputation with clients and brokers.

We operate in four distinct segments: Corporate, PFI/PPP, Risk Managed and Real Estate.

We write a broad range of sectors with a particular focus on health and social care, leisure and hospitality, general manufacturing, public sector, infrastructure and retail in the UK.


We take a pragmatic approach to providing businesses with the appropriate insurance solution, and we look to build long-term partnerships.

We are supported by a strong internal Integrated Business Unit infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the Underwriting division and ensure delivery of the plan in accordance with stated risk tolerances
  • Ensure the team's awareness of the business plan and its context so that they are able to take appropriate action and make informed decisions
  • Contribute and participate in all meetings in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
  • Contribute new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan especially focusing on the development of product literature & information to support the key business sectors within the team
  • Attending broker pipeline meetings to discuss opportunites, full record of meeting visibility details including following through and management of prospects to the business
Delivery

  • Establish and strengthen relationships with brokers, industry bodies, business partners, reinsurers and colleagues, to maximise influence and achieve business objectives
  • Attendance of client onboarding meetings and regular catch up meetings and being able to deliver the key benefits of being a Liberty client
  • Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycles to drive and enhance business performance
  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate development initiatives
  • Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives, including:
  • Negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business
  • Compliance with the production and issue of documentation in accordance with contract certainty requirements
  • Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio, to identify progress towards business objectives
  • Ensure entries are properly recorded onto relevant systems in a timely manner whilst ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures
Policy, Process and Procedures

  • Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology in order to minimise risk

Skills and Experience:


  • Good knowledge and experience of the Commercial Property market, distribution paths and customer dynamics.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Strong understanding of class specific underwriting and reinsurance structures
  • High level of understanding of common software including Excel and Word
