We are looking for an enthusiastic Receptionist/Administration Officer to join our Pathology Outpatients Reception team.


You will be the first and main point of contact for patients attending the Pathology department for blood tests and clinic appointments.

This role will work as part of the small reception team and support all aspects of the Pathology Reception and Outpatients area, including booking patients for clinic appointments and requesting tests.


To be a proactive member of the Pathology Reception Team, providing administrative support and promoting team working to achieve high standards of patients care and customer service.

Communication and relationship skills

A professional and welcoming patient focused approach. An excellent telephone manner, being able to answer non-clinical patient queries with support when required. At times dealing with sensitive phone calls and conversations with patients and relatives whilst maintaining a caring attitude.
Ensuring that information is communicated clearly and promptly to all those who need to know in order to maintain an efficient Pathology service

Planning and Organisational skills

To be proactive in managing the associated reception duties. Ability to work in a busy multifunctioning reception. Willingness to be able to alter work patterns during busy periods.

Key Working Relationship

Responsible to the Reception Supervisor/Admin Lead.

Frequent contact with patients, general practitioners, referring hospitals and other multi-disciplinary members as well as with a range of staff members within the Pathology department and wider Trust.

Patient/Client Care


To provide a care focused approach to patients attending for blood tests and other investigations, including appointment bookings, dealing with any sensitive situations with empathy and compassion.

To understand a range of tests and investigations undertaken by the Department and be able to communicate this effectively to a patient.

Responsibilities for People or Training

Once fully trained you would be responsible for training any new members of staff that may join the department.
