Part time Kitchen Assistant

22.5 hours

Core hours of work will be 9.30 am - 2.00pm 5 days a week, University term time only (weeks in accordance with the rota set by your Head of Department.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of food in accordance with health & safety regulations, HACCP, best practice and professional standards.
  • Serving of food according to instructions and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, HACCP, best practice & professional standards.
  • Recording temperatures of cooked foods in accordance with college policy and in order to comply with Health & Safety and HACCP regualtions.
  • The acceptance, checking, temperature recording and storage of incoming deliveries as necessary, in accordance with HACCP regulations.
  • Putting stores away and checking dates of stock, ensuring good stock rotation.
  • To clean kitchen equipment, utensils and crockery.
  • To keep the cleanliness of the kitchen to a high standard.
  • To help remove wast for disposal or recycling.
  • To complete training designed to minimize occupational risks, to include, Manual Handling, Basic Food Hygiene, C.O.S.H.H. Fire safety and other training as advised by the Manciple.
  • To ensure that C.O.S.H.H. regulations relating to any cleaning products used are strictly adhered and to observe the College's policy on Health and Safety at all times.
  • To observe and implement the College's energy efficiency measures, including switching off lights, turning down radiators and closing doors and windows when not in use.
  • To check the Kitchen keys out and back into the Lodge promptly each day, if required.
  • To report any breakages, defects, problems or complaints to the Head Chef, Catering manager or the Manciple.
  • To wear College uniform as supplied at all times when on duty.
  • To carry out any additional appropriate duties including covering for sickness/holidays of other staff as required.
