The post holder will be part of the team delivering the Modern Foreign Language (MFL) Mentoring project, which has been funded by Welsh Government since 2015 to arrest and reverse a 20-year decline in the number of young people opting to study a modern foreign language at GCSE in Wales (please see the additional information section for more project detail).


  • This role is designed to support the largescale operations of the MFL Mentoring Project, particularly in relation to engagement with secondary schools teachers and university students.
  • The post holder will lead on engagement with a caseload of schools and mentors. They will be responsible for the daytoday management of the university students engaged with the project, and the partner teachers. This will involve tracking progress, providing updates on processes and procedures, providing support and guidance and offering bespoke support as per the requirements of the teacher or student. They will be led by the Operations Manager and will be vital in providing the logístical and operational support needed to the project. They will also be closely involved in the recruitment of mentors and schools and will be involved in developing and executing the evaluation of the project for its users. The post holder will also be involved in the development of learning resources for primary and secondary school learners.
  • The role is suited to someone who enjoys taking the initiative, being creative and is passionate about supporting our young Welsh learners. In particular, the role will suit someone who enjoys a varied task load and will thrive in a busy, enthusiastic team. The role will require some travel and weekend working.
  • The post is fulltime (35 hours per week), available immediately, and is fixed term until 31 March 2024.

Salary:
£29,762 - £34,314 per annum (Grade 5)

The job requires the role holder to:

  • Proactively support the day-to-day operation of the Year 8/9 mentoring project, ensuring that compliance with all regulations of risk, management and evaluation are adhered to. This will include taking responsibility for resolving issues independently and seeking opportunities to improve the processes and procedures of the project's day-to-day functioning. proactively contributing to the continuous improvement of operational systems and processes to facilitate the work of the project. This will also include supporting other Project Coordinators and taking on a caseload of schools and mentors to manage on a day-to-day basis.
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, management, and development of a network of mentors from across partner universities. This will involve recruiting from across partner universities and university departments.
  • Support and deliver communications to teachers and mentors through different mechanisms and ensure their continuous improvement

This will include:
newsletters, events, social media and providing information to be include in website updates.

  • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate.
  • Contribute significantly to the training of a cohort of mentors both in terms of logistics and delivery.
  • Support the writing of project reports in readiness for Steering Group meetings, presenting where needed.
  • Maintain appropriate project documentation.
  • Support the development and delivery of a suite of learning resources for Primary and Secondary learners that are fit to support the changes brought about by the Curriculum for Wales.
  • Understand the requirements of the Curriculum for Wales and make recommendations about how multilingual learning resources can best support teachers and their professional development.
  • Be confident using a range of digital tools to support your working practices across all areas of the role.
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University within schools engagement and impact as required
