Overview


We are a Learning disability service providing 24 hour residential care for two young adults who have severe learning disabilities and associated complex needs.

We are currently hoping to expand our team and are looking for a support worker to join our dedicated workforce.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES APPLICANTS TO BE ABLE TO WORK DAY SHIFTS AND WAKING NIGHT SHIFTS AS PART OF THEIR ROTAS.

Main Activities and Role

  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with the local community, colleagues and other agencies so as to promote collaborative working and partnerships.
  • Contribute to the effective and efficient use of the physical and financial resources.
  • Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Health and Safety Policies
  • Receive, transmit, store and retrieve information in line with good practice and departmental policy and procedure.
  • Establish, sustain and disengage from relationships with service users and their families. Establishing positive relationships with service users and always offering them unconditional and positive regard
  • Contribute to the effective physical, social and emotional environment for group care which provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which service users and their families can be offered the support, care and guidance they need.
  • Contribute to the protection of service users from abuse; evaluate the risk of abuse, failure to protect and harm to self and other people and ensure that all matters regarding the care and management of service users are reported in line with company's policy and procedure.
  • Promote people's equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the promotion of the individuals' health and social well being; assist the individual to maintain a positive sense of self and identity which will include promoting and maximising their developmental trajectory and / or educational opportunities and achievements.
  • Contribute to the assessment of the individuals' needs and circumstances and in the development, provision and review of care programmes which meets these. Ensuring that each service user's care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs. Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on service users for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the manager
  • Implement the agreed framework for the prevention and proactive management of individuals behaviour in an non aversive way.
  • Enable and support service user's to participate in recreation and leisure activities.
  • Continue to develop ones own knowledge and practice and be able to be a reflective practitioner
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post. Attending to practical matters in relation to service user care (cooking, cleaning etc) and duties that may from time to time be required by the Manager.
  • Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with CQC Essential Quality standards. Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers
  • Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern (Whistleblowing)
  • This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work and night duty as part of a rota system. The post holder also is required to work weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays when required.
  • On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered.
  • In accordance with the guidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Registered Manager. Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them.
  • This post requires the holder to have a clear DBS at all times Changes to personal circumstances which may effect this must be notified to your line manager immediately
