An exciting new opportunity has arisen to work as an Assistant Practitioner (Physiotherapy) Band 4 alongside the Physiotherapist within the Community Acquired Brain Injury Service (CABIS).

The role will include working across AHP disciplines to meet the service need including Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.

CABIS provide community based neuro rehabilitation for people 16 years and over following an acquired brain injury (ABI).

Services are delivered across the Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead localities and therefore it is essential that applicants can meet the mobility requirements of the position.

This is a full time post working under the direction of the qualified Physiotherapist.

In order to succeed in this role you will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to demonstrate a calm and professional approach in challenging situations.

You will assist the physiotherapist by carrying out and modifying treatment plans to support service usersto meet their goals. You will evaluate the service users response, make minor adaptations and feed back to the therapist.

Sessions are delivered in a wide variety of settings including patient homes, clinics and leisure facilities. Sessions are offered on a 1:1 basis or in groups.


You will require excellent time management and organisational skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

You will have a good standard of record keeping using IT systems.

You will be supported by an experienced Physiotherapist receiving supervision and CPD opportunities.

CABIS is a multidisciplinary team working in partnership with numerous agencies, including secondary care and third sector organisations.

Assist the therapist to plan and carryout therapy and intervention activities within the objectives of the treatment plan.


Use specialist technical and creative skills to facilitate the preparation and implementation of AHP occupation/communication focused tools and approaches as a member of the MDT in order to promote recovery, wellbeing and maximise independence.

Deliver 1:1 and group treatment to patients monitoring their progress and making minor adaptations as required within sessions.


Contribute their observations of the communication and occupational barriers and strengths of the individuals based on a foundation theoretical knowledge of communication, language and occupation.
