LGA is the voice of local government - help us make it stronger
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.

We are a politically-led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government.

We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.

Assistant Director, Policy (Place / People) | salary from £101,199

We are now looking for an Assistant Director of Policy to work at a national level, leading our Place/People work, driving meaningful change for the sector, and those we serve.

This is a challenging time for our sector, but it is also a time of opportunity.

Local, national and global events are impacting on our communities like never before and a general election is on the horizon.

In this role you will become the principal point of contact for your policy area, working both internally and externally with a wide range of stakeholders including Ministers, senior civil servants, local authorities, partners, and the public.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will turn ideas into tangible proposals that garner the support and capture the imaginations of those around you.

Using data and evidence alongside your skills in both influence and persuasion, you will be a leader that can bring people with you, whether they are within your direct team or not.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate career success in a complex political environment as well as an understanding of the key government policy areas that mean the most to our sector.

Your political awareness and ability to build strong consensus will lead to your success, as will your sensitivity and credibility in building long lasting relationships.

Comfortable communicating both internally and externally, you will be able to present complex ideas in a clear, comprehensive, and understandable way to a range of stakeholders.

You will be an experienced and effective leader and manager of people.

This is an exciting time to join the LGA, and we are looking for leaders with a positive, flexible, responsible and dynamic approach to join our team and make the voice of local government stronger.
