The role of the LifeBook Interviewer is to help capture amazing stories about a person's life.

You will facilitate a life journey unfolding, by building a relationship with an author, over a series of personal visits.

You will play a vital role in bringing to life and recording their autobiographical stories, creating a wonderful family legacy.

The interviewer will visit the author, usually in their own home, for 12 meetings over a four-five-month period.

Each regular meeting lasts 90 minutes and is digitally recorded for a ghostwriter to creatively adapt into a 200-page hardback book with the support of a LifeBook editor, project manager, proofreader and typesetter.

LifeBook is the private autobiography specialist and confidentiality is essential at all times.

Part-time, contract


The role requires:

  • Commitment to complete 12 interviews of 90minutes each and also spend time preparing for the sessions, uploading the audio recordings and scanning the author amends for the writer after the sessions
  • Ability to work as part of a virtual team and to agreed timescales
  • Ability to follow procedures and work to directed instructions from the team's project manager
  • Good IT skills to be able to learn how to use a recording machine and scanner to specified settings and upload to our online database
  • Commitment to complete an online training, which covers the technical and soft skills required for the position
  • Living in close proximity to the author to allow for short travel times of less than 10 miles or 30 minutes
  • A desire to work with and build a relationship and life story with the author
  • Proven ability to structure a conversation to ensure all relevant information is obtained in a sensible order
  • An interest in social history and people's stories, from the everyday to the exceptional
  • Active listening and strong verbal communication skills
  • Empathy, patience and an open manner
  • Openminded and nonjudgemental
