Grade 5 of the NJCJE Grades and Salaries | Rising through Salary Contribution Point (SCP | £25, £29,515.12
Contract: 39 weeks |
Term Time | Plus up to 20 additional days overtime to be confirmed at the start of each academic year with line manager
Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday
- Friday) | May include some evening and weekend work.
Annual Leave:30 days plus bank holidays, included in salary calculation | Increasing each year to a maximum of 35 days after 5 years service.
Location:
Head office in Garston, Liverpool, and member schools across Merseyside.

We currently work with over 90 primary, secondary and SEN schools across Merseyside.
We are passionate about providing the pupils in our member schools with healthy, nutritious school meals. The Food For Thought Meals Service is designed to make lunch a safe, nutritious and exciting time for children. We encourage our school chefs to talk to the pupils and engage them in trying new dishes.

Alongside our core function of providing school meals, we also run several school programmes for our member schools to provide information, skills and experiences that will enable pupils to lead healthy and independent lives as they grow up.

Primary purpose of the job:
Food For Thought has a wide range of schools in its consortium so the Cookery Coach must be adaptable, enthusiastic and have the confidence to stand in front of large groups of children and young people, some of whom may have additional learning or behavioural needs.
The Cookery Coach will need to be hands-on and confident with practical problem solving; challenging situations might arise, and we need a confident decision maker who can think on their feet.
The team currently includes:
- Schools Programme Manager
- Cookery and Nutrition Manager
- Cookery Coach
- Outdoor Learning Instructor
- Outdoor Learning Assistant
Our programmes are wide ranging, and ever evolving; including both school-based classroom cookery and outdoor cookery, so flexibility and adaptability are essential.
There will also be some opportunity for the Cookery Coach to support Food For Thoughts programmes during the school holidays.
These additional days will be available as overtime and will be mutually agreed at the start of the academic year with the School Programme Manager.
We envisage your typical working week as Cookery Coach to look like this:- Monday | Office based
- team meetings, admin, lesson planning and preparation.
- Tuesday
- Thursday | School based visiting FFT schools across Merseyside delivering sessions.
- Friday | Office based
- team meetings, admin, lesson planning and preparation.
Directly responsible to:
Food For Thought CEO and Schools Programme Manager (SPM).
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Development and Delivery
The Cookery Coach will:
- Plan and deliver practical cookery coaching sessions for member schools and the local community.
- Be familiar with the National Curriculum for both primary and secondary pupils.
- Keep up to date with relevant aspects of the curriculum including Design & Technology, Science and PSHE.
- Support with the development of new and innovative educational activities that align with the vision of the Company and the further growth of the programmes offering.
- Propose and implement enhancements to the programme based on feedback, emerging trends, and best practices.
- Meet the needs of schools and their curriculums in the planning and delivery of creative and practical sessions.
